Motivation

Motivation is a Mindset
"The mind is master of the man, and so, "They can who think they can!"
~Nelson Waterman~

Motivation is Influenced Through Observation
No printed word
nor spoken plea
Can teach young minds
What they should be
Not all the books
On all the shelves
But what the teachers are themselves
~Anonymous~

Motivation Persist in the Face of Failure
~Focus on the goal, not the struggle~

Motivation is Rooted in Ownership
If students are involved, they will feel some ownership.
When students have ownership, they will accept responsibility.
If students accepts responsibility, they will be motivated!

  5. Carolyn,

This is an excellent blog page on "Motivation"! I believe that all people have an inate sense of motivation, but sometimes it has to be stirred in them. As a basketball coach, in order for my team to reach their potential, I have to remotivate them every day. Once I help them to overcome the things that has knocked them down, they often motivate themselves. Motivation is the key to success!

  7. Mrs.Gosa,

This is really a great blog on motivation. It contains an abundance of well organized information. Like many others, I believe one must first be self motivated to accomplish or achieve their goals. I also believe there are many things that can enhance or influence one's motivation. I know I am a self motivated person but I also know that my daughter definitely motivates me to try harder and to go that extra mile. Thanks for this inspirational blog!!!

Reflection of motivation persisting in the face of failure reminded me that there are no shortcuts to any place worth going. Great work!!! "Wisdom For Our Times"

  10. I love the one about motivation being influenced through observation. As an educator, it is truly amazing how children look up to us and expect us to set a perfect example for them. As adults, we have to remember to lead by example. I had a discussion with a book study group today and we spoke about the difference in children today from 15-20 years ago. Children today expect adults to respect them ; whereas back in the day adults expected children to respect them and children respected adults b/c they were adults. So with that said....respect is mutual and educators should lead by example.

  11. Motivation is def the key to success. We all have something for which we want to succeed, and whatever that is feeds our drive to do all we can do. :-)

  12. Carolyn,
I like your blog very much.

My youngest son, who will graduate from college in a few weeks, motivates me by reminding me that "slow and steady wins the race." He has some LD's and has ADD. That fits into focusing on the goal and not the struggle.
    Thanks,
    Susanne
